THE Bishop of Brad ford is to visit a Ribble - Valley village to present its church with the first ever Eco-Congregation award in the diocese. : / The R t ; Rev. • David
James is presenting the award to the congregation of St John’s Church, Hurst Green, nex t Thursday evening. , St John’s is also the first
church in Lancashire to receive the award. Over the past year or so the congrega tion has been exploring Christian responsibilities and responses to God’s creation. .’They have been looking at
the church’s place in the com munity and the environment' and its relationship to nature. A number of activities
have taken place culminating in an Bco-Forum in October
last year when workshops were held to consider issues - such as spiritual responsibili- • ty in today’s world, how, to become more aware of-the church’s part in caring for God’s creation and how to be more energy efficient. . There were also discussions on green funerals - using
more environmentally friend ly coffins - and on wildlife conservation in churchyards. The ecumenical service on
Thursday has been entitled "A'Village Celebration of Light" and everyone from the area is welcome to attend. Parishioners from St
