casters are expecting an increase in interest rates to 4.75 per cent by the end of the year which could curb demand. Here in the Ribble Valley, it appears that some of those


who fool that they have been priced out of the housing mar­ ket are looking elsewhere, while others have turned their attention to the numerous car­ avan and residential homes sites on the fringe. A number of semi-retired and older resi­ dents have followed suit, say­ ing that while the property market is good, they have taken the decision to pull their money out, cut down on over­ heads and living costs, down­ size and reinvest. There are also signs that the market for properties abroad


is still buoyant, with more and more people cashing in on their home and relocating to sunnier climes. With the aver­ age home taking four to six weeks to attract a buyer, at


which stage offers somewhat less than the asking price advertised may be made, and all that before mortgages are sought and gained, how any­ one manages to predict just what is happening week by week is in itself confusing. Then, of course, there is the north - south divide. Prices we believe did fall slightly towards the end of 2003 in some parts of the country and wore virtually stagnant in London and the South East.
