Fighter Michael lands top TV date!
by Adrian Capstick
CLITHEROE cage fighter Michael Bisping is carving himself some thing of a reputation for dispensing his oppo nents in double quick
uptime. As the martial arts
expert has continued his trait by knocking out his last opponent in just 40 seconds at the UK Mixed Martial Arts tournament held in Essex at the week end. Back in April, Bisping
stormed on to the Ulti mate Fighting scene with his debut bout tha t saw him knock his opponent
out in just 38 seconds. And it's not as though
his challengers are easy pickings as this time his opponent John Weir had a proven record in this event - yet the Clitheroe con queror was still able to take him down in the first round. Maintaining his interest
in professional bouts, Bisp ing is now preparing for the biggest fight of his life by far when he faces for mer South American Wrestling Champion Babaloo at Wembley Con ference Centre on Satur day, July 10th. Billed as part of Cage
Rage Seven, an interna tional event deemed of the
highest order of cage fight ing in this country, the bout is to be filmed by Sky Sports and will be screened some time in the future. And Bisping is eager for
the opportunity: “This is a really high level of fight ing, about 10 fights up the scale from where I am now, but if I can pull it off it will really make my mark. “I'm really lucky to get
the opportunity as Babaloo's original oppo nent pulled out a t the last minute and I simply
couldn't turn it down. “It'll be a tough test as
he has competed with the best in the American Ulti mate Fighting Champi onships but I'll give it a good go and if I win then America beckons” As with his last major
bout back in April, a coach is again being arranged for the Wembley trip so any one interested in attending the televised international event are asked to ring Michael Bisping (07743 707845) for tickets and further information.

budge until the 34th over, and when he was out, it seemed only a matter of time before the runaway leaders would add another victim. Read began their reply with skip
per Warren Eastham alongside Chris Walton, and after the latter had smashed Jon Stead for four in the first over, the tone was set. Michael Scothern went for 13 in
the very next over, and after just 20 balls of the Read reply, they were already 35-0. At that point, Eastham fell to a
good catch from Jeevantha Kulatun- ga for 23, before Barnoldswick made another breakthrough with Kulatun- ga picking up his second catch of the afternoon to get rid of Sleep. But the incoming Danny Law
would do the damage alongside Wal ton, as the pair put on the remaining 123 runs required to steer the home side to victory. As for Sunday’s Thwaites LCB

But just like 24 hours earlier, they
were made to sweat somewhat by a superb opposition century. Hosts opener M. Chasemore hit an
unbeaten 135 in their reply, after Read had amassed 235-8. His innings were by far the main
feature of the Norley reply, but strangely, after notching 15 fours and one six to reach his century, he never again found the boundary ropes. And that ultimately cost his side
dear. Without their injured captain War
ren Eastham, and with Peter Sleep replacing him in the Ribblesdale League Select side, the locals col lapsed to 52-4. However, Michael Whalley batted
a superb innings of 85, with big hitter Andrew Turner modifying his game to increase the total to 115 until he was out leg before for 30. Andrew Rushton notched an
impressive 49, before Matt Doughty and K. O’Connor saw out the innings. Danny Law and Andrew Rushton
both picked up two wickets in the reply, with the incoming Frank Bar den and Oliver Newby also chipping in.
And with Chasemore going off the
boil, the Read faithful watched as they restricted the home side to 207-6 for a 28-run victory. ■ More cricket on page 63.
