squad boost ahead of historic season

by Adrian Capstick

CLITHEROE manager Lee Sculpher squad could be stretched from the out set as he leads his side into UniBond First Division action this season. He originally laid out

his stall in June to have 18 to 20 players at his dispos al for the start of the sea son. And i t seems th a t his

plans have run true to form as the good majority of last year's squad are available. But as yet the finishing

touches have still to be made as no new signings have been completed in pre-season. And with the news that

ham and John Paul Fagan will be unavailable for the Shepshed Dyanamo fix ture a week on Saturday . at Shawbridge. Whittingham is sus

pended, following disci plinary action issued at the end of last season, and Fagan is away on holiday. And with no further

news as to how long Mar tin Aspinwall will be side lined with his recurring hip injury, Sculpher will no doubt be glad when his new inclusions sign on the

with his performance and hopefully he'll sign with us this week too. “Stuart ju s t needs to

clarify a few things before signing and then hopeful ly we'll have more than enough strength in defence.” However the Blues are

bolstered in midfield by the news th a t everyone will be back in training this week at least. He said: “Paul Stans-

an out field squad of about 16 available players for the first game, 18 with the two keepers, and three of those outfield players will hopefully be the new signings. “Paul Forsyth looks as

though he will be joining us for the new season as I was talking to him at length on Monday night. “He's really interested

and keen to join, b u t I won't definitely know until the weekend. “Centre halves Chris

Nestor and Stuart Boddy look to be certainties though, and it's really just a case of putting pen to paper.” He added: “Chris was

makes a welcome return this week to training, as does Kris Richens, so we should have nearly a full squad to pull from for the opening game.” Tuesday night’s friendly

clash with UniBond Pre mier Division side Burscough at Shawbridge was postponed due to the monsoon-like conditions, but the club hope to stage the game on Monday, kick-off 7-30 p.m. The Blues will hope the
