TODDLERS from across the Ribble Valley launched walnut sailing boat candles to mark the traditional Candlemas festival. Children and parents who attend the area’s Steiner group, Acorns, also took part in a candle dipping workshop at Pendleton Vil lage Hall as part of the continuing celebra
tions. Candlemas, which is traditionally held
on February 2nd, takes its name from the blessing of candles on this day for use in church throughout the coming year.
, The Valley’s Acorns, who meet at With-
gill Fold, Clitheroe, three times a week, fol low the philosophy of educationalist Rudolf Steiner. He believed pre-school children should use only natural materials in learn ing and play. The aim is to maintain the youngsters’ natural rhythm by following the seasons and festivals which occur dur ing a year. Pictured at the candle boat launch are, from the left, Ben Cameron, Thomas and Caroline Muldoon, with Angela and Matthew Taylor, (s)
