“TREASURE PLANET” (U); from Friday, February 21st; Grand Cinema, Clitheroe A FUTURISTIC twist on Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, “Treasure Planet” follows restless teen Jim Hawkins on a fantastic journey, across the universe as cabin boy aboard a majestic space galleon. Befriended by the ship’s charismatic cyborg cook,
John Silver, Jim blossoms under his guidance and shows the makings of a fine shipmate as he and the alien crew battle a supernova, a black hole and a ferocious space storm. But even greater dangers lie ahead when Jim dis covers that his trusted friend Silver is actually a schem ing pirate with mutiny on his mind. “CATCH ME IF YOU CAN” (12A); from Friday, February 21 st A GAME of cat and mouse is engaged by Leonardo
DiCaprio arid Tom Hanks under the direction of Steven Spielberg. Frank W. Abagnale (DiCaprio) worked as a lawyer, a doctor and as co-pilot for a major airline - all before his 21st birthday. A master of deception, he was also a brilliant forger, whose skill at cheque fraud had netted him in millions of
dollars. FBI agent CarlHanratty (Tom Hanks) makes it his
prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice in this big screen re-telling of a true story.
Querlion: What was the nattu of tha ship which look the original Jim Hawkins to the treasure island?

Ita-tu delighted over ballet visit .THE legendary Kirov Ballet,
. which some hail as the greatest .ballet company in the world, performs in the North West for the very first time soon.
’ The company makes its debut a t The Lowry with “Swan Lake” and “La Bayadere” from April 28th -
.May 3rd. ■ ■ The visit is being heralded
■ as the ballet experience of a lifetime, offering a rare oppor tunity for audiences in the North-West to enjoy such a prestigious and unique theatri cal event. Robert Robson, appointed
last week as The Lowry's The atres Director, said: "We're
extremely proud to be the first
venue to host this exciting landmark dance event in the North West. Classical ballet just doesn't come any bigger or better than this." He added: "Presenting The
Kirov is another coup among many coups in The Lowry's short history, which continues to demonstrate our enormous commitment to presenting international and high profile theatre in Salford." The Kirov will bring 185
company members to The Lowry, including 65 musicians and approximately 90 dancers. With a history stretching
back to 1738 and Empress Catherine the Great, the truly legendary Kirov has a contin
uous tradition of excellence unrivalled by any other ballet company in the world. The Kirov dance two of their greatest and most spectacular productions, brought to Eng land in their entirety from their home - Mariinsky The atre in St Petersburg. “Swan Lake” was first per
formed at the Mariinsky in 1895. The company's current version dates from 1950. The exotic “La Bayadere”
has been danced on the Mari insky stage for 100 years and is best known for its Kingdom of the Shades scene, starring 32 exquisite ballerinas in white
tutus en pointe.
