pense of Skelmersdale United in the re-arranged quarter-final tie on Tues day, January 28th, Lee Sculpher’s side will wel come the Storks to Shaw- bridge on February 22nd, before travelling to the Arbories a fortnight later, March 8th, for the second leg. Sculpher said: “I t ’s a
good draw if we can beat Skelmersdale. I t should
create a lot of interest locally. “And from a financial
point of view, we should get good crowds for both games. “But we can’t really
think about Padiham because we have to beat Skelmersdale first.” The Blues were left kick
ing their heels this week as Saturday’s match versus Skelmersdale and Tues day’s Marsden Lancashire Trophy second round tie against Holker Old Boys were postponed due to a heavily frozen pitch at Shawbridge. The Holker Old Boys tie
will now take place on Tuesday, January 21st. Sculpher said: “It’s a bit
disappointing and frustrat ing to have the games called-off. “Obviously, when you’re
■doing as well, as what we are doing at the moment, you want to keep playing. “But if Saturday’s game
is called off then it will mean we will have been inactive for two weeks. “We certainly don’t
want to get to a stage like last season, when around about March time we still had 20 games to play.” Saturday was the first
time a game has been called-off at Shawbridge this season, which speaks volumes for the drainage work done on the pitch in the summer. Sculpher added: “The
pleasing thing is the pitch is still in good condition. Last season we had a lot of games called off because of a waterlogged pitch. “But there is still a lot of
grass on it and until Satur day, we hadn’t had a game called off this season, and th a t ’s all credit to the ground staff and the drainage work done in the summer.” Clitheroe travel to
Abbey Hey this weekend hoping, to extend their impressive unbeaten streak to 16 games. Sculpher added: “We
played Abbey Hey in November and beat them 1-0 in what was a scrappy game. “It’s going to be difficult,
Midfielder R eyn o ld s se t to return ahead of schedule?
CLITHEROE have been boosted by the news that long-term injury vic tim Neil Reynolds could return to action next month. The influential midfielder, who has
been out of action for the best part of a year after suffering a serious cruci ate knee ligament injury during a 1-1 draw versus Flixton in March, has been given the go-ahead to resume full training. Reynolds has undergone two oper
ations over the past year, and barring any significant reaction, Sculpher is hopeful that he may have the tough- tackier back in his squad towards the end of the season. Sculpher said: “Neil has been given
the all-clear. He will start full train ing this week with the rest of the lads and is going to be looking to play a
game for the reserves in the middle of February. So he’s possibly four-to six weeks away. “He’ll be building his fitness up
now and getting used to striking the ball again. “The doctors have told him that he
should make a full recovery and Neil’s given himself every chance. “He’s been very professional with
the way he’s gone about his rehabili tation. He’s been down to the gym every day, doing the exercises that the doctors have told him to do. “He has been training during his
rehabilitation, so his general fitness won’t be too much of a problem but, obviously, it’s when he starts twisting and turning and there’s also the psy- cholgical barrier to overcome.” Sculpher also revealed that Carl
Double boost for leaders
RAMSBOTTOM’S quest for the East Lancashire Table Tennis League Pre miership title was given a double boost this week when they collected two great wins. Reigning champions
Allspeeds were beaten 6-4 with Dave Newton main taining his 100% record and Derrick Buckley notching two vital wins. The Rams then
trounced East Lancashire 9-1 with Newton, Gra ham Hoy and Martin Holt being the successful trio. In the First Division,
leaders Ramsbottom C whitewashed Temple Street 10-0, although five matches went to three games but Joe Walk, Derek Edwards and Ian McPherson were far too strong for the opposition. Third-placed Piolax
visited locals Standen Hall B and lost 7-3 - Mark Hanson was, once again, the destroyer-in chief for the winners. Haslingden CC with Peter Barham in superb form shared the spoils with Kay Street A in a 5- 5 draw. Burnley Cricket Club
are back to winning ways as they defeated Tek- Neek 6-4 in the Second Division. Alan Prudden was the s ta r cricketer with three wins.- Ramsbottom D fin
ished the year crushing third from bottom SAS 9- 1. Steve Evans'and John Taylor were the unbeaten players on the night. In the Third Division,
second-placed Shahsmen showed no mercy as they swept past Hustlers 9-1 with fiery Fred Holden and ice-cool Eddie Riley
the dynamic duo. Peter Marsland contin
ues to impress as he won all his matches as Brier- field took the honours 7-3 against Optimists. Whalley took no pity
on their own reserve side as they completed a 10-0 whitewash in the Fourth Division. Graham Davie, Eric Ronnan and War wick Lewthwaite were the
successful players. TABLES

Greenwood is making steady progress in his recovery from break ing both his tibia and fibula against Curzon Ashton last season. Sculpher added: “With Carl, it is a
matter of wait and see. He’s just glad to be on his feet. There’s no target for him at the moment. “He’s been jogging and doing gym
work. He’s looking to get a full pre season done and get back for the start of next season. To be honest, I ’ve written them both off for this season. “If you start setting short-term
goals and they don’t meet them then you can start feeling a little disap pointed. “But it would be an absolute bonus
to have them back. I t will be like signing two new players.”
Neil Reynolds 15-FLIXTON
they will be up for it. We will be seen as the team everybody wants to beat - being in second place in the league and on a 15-game unbeaten run. “But, obviously, if you
want to do something in this league then you have to be going to places like Abbey Hey and getting maximum points.” With Clitheroe aiming
a great camaraderie between the players. “Everyone gets on really
well and it certainly makes my job a lot easier. “Sometimes at other
clubs you get a split in the dressing room, but every body here gets on and we all socialise together. “It does make a massive
for success on four fronts this season, and with the prospect of a backlog of fixtures should the weather continue to be a hindrance, the players will be aiming to draw on their tremen dous team spirit to get them through the rest of the season. Sculpher said: “There is
difference.” Jason Jones is suspended
for Saturday’s match, while Andy Cowking (ankle), Gary Jackson (hamstring) and Mark Stewart (illness) all face a race against time to be fit. • The reserves are at
home to Curzon Ashton on Saturday, kick-off 3
