Clitheroe 422324 (Editorial),! Clitheroe 422324 (Editorial), 422323 (Advertising), Burnley 422331 (Classified^wwv^^ Expansion is an exercise in making studio fit for the future

REVITALISE your life this year with a visit to a new-look health and fitness

studio in Clitheroe. A major makeover a t Hicks has seen a

change of focus to encompass both exercise and relaxation.

I t was the swift rise in the number of Kib . „

ble Valley residents of all ages taking up membership at the club which prompted the major expansion and alteration pro

gramme. Current and new members will now be

able to enjoy the fruits of that labour, exer cising in style and relaxing in comfort at

Hicks. The studio’s state-of-the art gym has dou

bled in size and a hi-tech cardio-theatre intro duced; a seven-day programme of dance and exercise classes has been timetabled and its stylish new cafe-bar has added an extra dimen sion to the main reception area. In addition, the dedicated beauty and ther

apy area has been transformed and now accommodates two therapists, a hairdresser

and an extra sunbed. Members can now enjoy exercising in a wel

coming environment, where a team of seven staff, together with fully-trained instructors, is on hand to advise and plan programmes to

suit individual client need. Easily accessible from Chatburn Road,

Clitheroe, Hicks’ newly-resurfaced car park affords plenty of space for the centre’s ever- increasing membership. All the extra ingredients added to the well-

established former health and rackets club have resulted in a revitalised centre offering the latest in exercise classes, established favourites and a state-of-the-art gym where increased floor space has enabled the introduc-

tion of a designated stretch area, additional weights and a specialist cardio section.

GYM EXERCISE on the variety of equipment installed in Hicks’ air-conditioned gym can now be enjoyed with accompaniment from the newly-installed cardio theatre. Using the latest technology, members are connected to a bank of television screens on

which they can view a channel of their choice or select from one of eight different styles of music to run, stretch or cycle to. Hicks’ owner, Mandy Walmsley, hopes the

addition of movement and music will encour age new members to come to try out the facil ities.

STUDIO A SPRUNG floor in the brand new dance stu dio will put an additional spring in the step of

. those willing to participate in the many exer cise classes on offer. Kick-boxing, pilates and dance classes have

been introduced in addition to the established favourites, including aerobics, step and body

pump. Younger participants are also catered for

with late afternoon and weekend dance and exercise classes being added to the packed activity programme.

CAFE-BAR THE introduction of Hicks’ new cafe-bar has led to the total transformation of the centre’s reception area. ' With its cafe-style tables and chau-s juxta

posed besides more traditional seating area, the cafe-bar has added an extra dimension to

the club. Selling soft and hot drinks, as well as alco

holic beverages and cold snacks, members can now relax after class while enjoying views across Clitheroe Cricket Club’s home ground.

BEAUTY AND THERAPY REFLEXOLOGY and reiki are among the remedial therapies on offer in the new dedicat ed beauty and therapy area. While Valerie Clarke and Pippa Taylor offer

their expertise in a range of therapies, a sun shower and new sunbed

enable members to enjoy year-round sunshine, while the sauna and steam room complement the full relaxation pro gramme. Opening in February

will be a new hair salon called Diva Hair Studio to be run by stylist Sarah McCally.

A need to make better

use of the facilities on site was the task facing the team at Hicks. With health trends

moving away from tradi tional racket sports towards individually- designed fitness pro grammes and class- based exercise, the team faced its challenge head on.

Anyone interested in

annual or monthly mem bership will find Hicks’ door open seven days a week.

Wind chill factor was prevalent

DECEMBER began with mild wet weather, but towards the end of the first week colder, cloudy weather set in. Easterly and northerly winds reduced daytime temperatures. The wind chili factor was

prevalent until the 20th, with frosty nights on the 17th to the

20th. Milder weather returned from the south-west to stay until the end of the month, with rain on most days - the 29th being the wettest.
