number of complaints they had about the information sent out to voters by council staff. ' According to Mrs Pat Rawson, agent for the Liberal Democrats, at least 200 households had been sent polling, cards directing them to vote at the-wrong polling stations. The polling cards failed to take

account of new boundary changes which had resulted in five new wards being cre ated: Primrose, St Mary’s, Salthill, Lit- tlemoor and Edisford and Low. Moor. * A fewer number of voters in villages

like SawleyGrindleton, Waddington, and West Bradford,, where new bound aries had been drawn up, were also affected by being directed to the wrong

polling stations, claimed Mrs Rawson. Approximately 1,250 postal votes had

been sent out with the wrong instruc tions. Instead of advising the voters in each ward they were able to vote for two candidates, the instructions were those which would normally be sent for a gen eral election, advising voters they could vote for only one candidate. Although revised instructions were

bemg sent out by the council, Mrs Raw- son said they were worried that some people might not receive the instruction

in .time. And those who went to the wrong ,

pnlling station might not bother to vote at all if they “had to trek across, the town” to another polling station, she

claimed. . She said at the meeting on Tuesday

they were assured by Returning Officer Mr Morris and Deputy Returning Offi cer Mr Timson that the votes today

Arrests follow gunpoint raid

ARRESTS were made in Greater Manchester after a gunpoint raid in Clitheroe early on Thursday morning. I t was the third mail robbery in a few

months in Clitheroe and the second at the Chester Avenue Sorting Office. Two men have been questioned and police inquiries in the local and Manchester areas are

ongoing.; , : No details have been revealed about exactly

what was taken when two men held up a postal worker at the sorting office at 4-20 a.m. on

Thursday. . . But it is thought that registered mail was

included in the haul. It is believed the robbers wore balaclavas and

had a gun. They drove off in a Ford Orion car. Later, after.police surveillance of main
