Read celebrate first title in 21 years at club presentation


READ Cricket Club held their Annual Presentation Evening in th e pavilion on Friday evening, after enjoying their f i rs t Jennings Ribblesdale League title for 23 years. - The presentation of the tro­


phies was made by John Stan- worth, who works as a player: development manager for Lan­ cashire CC, after seven of the team's youngsters were picked for Lancashire teams through­ out the summer. A special presentation was


made on the night, with the League Championship Cup: again presented to first eleven captain Warren Eastham.


Eastham also collected the


first eleven Bowling Cup and the Jack Harwood Cup for the best individual performance during the season. The Player of the Year


award was handed to all- rounder Craig Walton, who also collected the first eleven Batting Cup. . The two young player of the


year awards went to Joseph Marshall and Williams Driver, collecting the senior and junior versions respectively. The Under 15s-player of the', year went to Scott-Doughty,


; while Richard Whitwell picked up the equivalent award for


the Under 13s side and Josh Langford for the Under 11s. Elliot Artingstoll also picked


up the award for Best Young Fielder in the Under 11s. Nick Marsh was the only


other player to pick up two awards on the night, collecting the third eleven and second eleven batting awards. Brother Tom picked up the


th ird team bowling award, while the equivalent for the: second eleven went to Andrew Bennett. The final award of the

event, which sees competi­ tors cycle a t the speed of road racers, while corner­ ing arid bunny hopping as in BMX. Mud, steep banks and


low hurdles force riders to disriiount and ru n with th eir lightweight cycles over their shoulders. Spectators will be able

THE heats for the Clitheroe Dolphins Annual Swimming Gala were held recently, with an astonishing 174 personal best times recordedl Almost all of the club’s 160


members took p a r t in what were two exciting evenings of swimming.
