impresses at AAA finals

Bv CHRIS BODEN

DESPITE a badly-sprained ankle, Clitheroe athlete Anna Griffiths turned in a fantastic per formance to finish fourth overall in the AAA Under 15 Combined Events Championships in Cardiff at the weekend.

The 14-year-old Hyndburn AC member went . .

over on her right ankle warming up for the shot putt event, which she eventually won with a fine

throw of 9.80 metres. However, the injury, to her take-off foot, hin

dered her efforts in the long jump and high jump. She fought the pain barrier to take equal fourth

in the high jump, and performed well in the long jump, despite not jumping in training all winter. Earlier she ran a good 60m hurdles, finishing in

9.79 seconds, before closing the championships with a punishing 800m run, where she clocked

2:47.51 minutes.

And although she was disappointed not to fin ish among the medals, she was thrilled with her

«.

efforts. This came on the back of helping Lancashire

reach the finals of the Northern Sports Hall. The team finished five points behind regional

winners Manchester, and qualified as best runners- up.

end, finished as second all-rounder on the day. She joined a team-mate to take second place in

the eight-lap parlauf relay, before finishing second in the vertical jump, second in the four-lap race and eighth in the shot, way down on her best.
