Animal shelter’s urgent appeal to find new homes
AN animal centre struggling to cope with a flood of home less felines is urging Ribble Valley pet owners to make

sqre their cats can be traced. ■ The Altham Animal Centre,
run by the RSPCA's Lancashire East branch, is currently caring for 46 cats, themaximum num ber i t can accommodate under its licence.'' , Another 126 are waiting to come into the centre. Staff, who take in animals from
the Ribble Valley and the rest of East .Lancashire, believe many of the cats and kittens in their care
are owned by people who believe their pets are lost and have given up hope of finding them. In a bid to be able to reunite
owners and animals, centre man ager Jeanette Ainscough urged local residents to have their pets microchipped. She also suggested that individ
uals who lose pets should exhaust all avenues to find their lost cats before concluding' that they will never see them again. : ■ As well as offering advice' to

Thieves steal classic car
THIEVES have stolen a car which will be diffi cult to sell or disguise. They went on to Mr Tony Ditri's drive at Lit-
tlemoor Road, Clitheroe, at the weekend and, although it was locked, took the little grey and white 38-year-old Wolsely Hornet classic car. Mr Ditri has owned the car for four years, but
had spent the last four weeks putting it back in top class condition. The number plate alone - BRA 42B - will
make it stand out in a crowd. "It is as if the thieves knew exactly what they-
wanted" said Mr Ditri. "It is not the sort of car which would be taken
by joyriders or boy racers. “I t is not a high value vehicle. I t is probably
worth around £2,000 or £3,000." Police are investigating.

Date at Castle Museum
ENTRY to Clitheroe's Castle Museum is free this weekend. The museum is supporting a call made by the Civic
Trust to encourage visitors to national treasures - buildings of historical and cultural significance - by giving free access and hosting special events. There will be two special event-workshops to cele
brate their participation in the scheme. Themed "Tex tures and Patterns", they take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's workshop involves lino cutting and
printing while Sunday's focuses on plaster casting and moulding inspired by "textures in nature".
