Torchlil from t
THE Queen's golden jubilee celebrations were a perfect excuse for m em b ers of Clitheroe's Torchlight com-1 mittee to leap into action! Torchlights have, over the I years, been staged to celebrate
- special occasions. As the first I was held to celebrate the Gold-1 en Jubilee of Queen Victoria in | 1887, committee members 1151 years on are determined to l make sure that this event is the j
best ever. Queen Victoria was then cele-1
brating the longest reign of any! British queen. In 1887, the pro-1 cession included four horsemen, | members of the Clitheroe Bicycle! Club, torchbearers on foot, the! steam fire engine drawn by fours horses and manned by the Firel Brigade whose members exhibit-1 ed fireworks and coloured fires.l There were clowns on foot, 12| Knights of the Cleaver headed byi their chief, Arabs mounted oni Jerusalem ponies, several bandsf and even a float with Ethiopian:^ "changing their skins”. The Torchlight was the clima
