its 522 phones due to lack of use - with most travellers favouring their mobiles. A total of 30 boxes across the North-
West, including the two located on either side of the A59, will be affected. Kerry Richardson, the AA's director of
road services, said: "The boom in mobile phones has made our roadside phones virtu ally redundant. It may be time to ring in the end of the AA's emergency roadside phones, but our commitment to the best possible service to our members remains the same."

Spate of bike thefts
BICYCLES were stolen from outbuildings at two Clitheroe homes at the weekend. A shed was broken into at a house in
Queen Street, and a gent's blue mountain bike. At a house in' Garnett Road, an, out house was broken into, and a girl's,pink pedal cycle and a boy's WhiteRock cycle,

Running couple are asking for help to raise funds for charity

marathon run are asking for help with fund-raising. Mr John and Mrs Patsy Rimmer are
taking part in the BUPA Great North Run in aid of the disabled children's char ity Get Kids Going!. The charity provides wheelchairs and sports grants to help dis abled youngsters to participate in sport at all levels. / Mr Rimmer said: "There is no other
charity like Get Kids Going!, as it not only provides desperately needed equip ment, but it also gives them a life of their own and a fantastic interest and partici pation in sport." The cost of a lightweight manual wheel

Short and gentle walks replace the impractical evening outings
THE Clitheroe group of the Ramblers Association is trying short, gentle after noon walks on Wednes days, as evening outings have become impractical. These run on alternate
weeks to the scheduled Tuesday walks and the sec ond of these started from Chatburn. After negotiating the
hazards of the A59, the group walked up White- croft to cross the limestone ridge between Worsaw and Warren Hills. ,
