Rush-hour traffic is diverted
THERE were no injuries, but extensive damage and delay, when a Castle Cement tanker went off the road early on Tues day morning. The accident happened
at the same spot on the notorious Devil's Elbow, Read, as a van accident some months ago. Rush-hour traffic was
diverted while the articu lated vehicle was removed.
Times Rich List 2001 shows a marked drop in local fortunes

P U B L IC A T IO N of the Sunday Times Rich List 2001 reveals some, slippage in the fortunes of Ribble Valley's
entries. Former Blackburn
Rovers' player Dave Whe lan and family drop down the list from 84th to 97 th
richest in Britain,-despite earnings going up from £303m. in 2000 to £325m. Mr Whelan (64) has
built Wigan-based JJB Sports into a national retailer, with a family stake
worth £246m. In 157th place are John
Lancaster and family with an estimated £203m. Last year's list saw the conser vatory roofing manufac
turer and his family a t equal 133rd with £220m. In 669th with £50m. is
Tahir Mohsan and family of Simonstone's Time Computers. Mr Mohsan and Dr Tariq Mohammed set up the company in 1987 and, according the the Sunday Times, "the com pany has been a huge suc cess with big mail order sales, but its high street expansion may prove to
have been a costly mis take." The newspaper says that it cut its valuation to £50m. to reflect the down turn in the high-tech sec tor. In 2000 the company was placed at equal 168th with £175m. Former ELTEC chief
Mr Anthony Cann (62), in equal 747th place last year with £40m. is put at equal 947th for 2001 with £35m.
