MY FAVOURITE FILM by Geoff Jackson

What is your favourite film of all time? It is impossible to select just one, but one that stands out in my memory is the 1974 triple Oscar winner "The Towering Infer no".

Why do you like it s o much? It was the first, and the best, of the disas ter movies. It had an all-star cast includ ing Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, William Holden, Fred Astaire, Faye Dun- naway....and there was real tension throughout the three-hour film.

When did you first s e e th is film?

I saw it at the Grand in Clitheroe (or was it the Civic Hall at the time?) with my wife, Sue, but we weren't in the courting seats.

What is your favourite part of th e film? Fire Chief O'Halloran (Steve McQueen) saves 12 hotel guests from certain death by tying the scenic elevator to a winch that was dangling from a chopper whilst holding on grimly to a fire officer's wrists (using fireman's grip?) and supervising the elevator safely to terra firma.

Who i s y o u r

a c to r /a c tr e s s? Michael Caine.

® G eo f f J a c k s o n is m a n a g e r of Clitheroe's Trinity Centre
