"The stye and size of the properties reflects some of the his­ torical nature of the site in that the three-storey blocks, with the intro­ duction of various gables, has some regard to the previous history, and the use of red brick also reflects the historical nature of the site."

Man nearly three times over limit


P R E - S E N T E N C E reports have been ordered in the case of a Clitheroe man who was nearly three times over the drink-drive


limit. Magistrates at Black­


burn ordered the reports after hearing that Michael Harry Alston (50), of Hay- hurst Street, Clitheroe, had been convicted of failing to provide a specimen in 1997. Alston admitted driving


while over the limit in Manor Road, Clitheroe. A breath test showed a figure of 101 against the legal limit of 35.


Mosque refusal hearing planned


A PUBLIC inquiry is to be held into the appeal against Ribble Valley Borough Council’s refusal to allow a mosque in Holden Street,


Clitheroe. The hearing will be on


July 4th and is expected to be at the Ribble Valley Bor­ ough Council Chamber. The applicants want to


put a single-storey exten­ sion to the side and rear of a terraced house to create a mosque with washing facili­ ties.

Coffee morning for hospice funds A COFFEE morning held in Clitheroe raised more than


£300 for the East Lancashire Hospice. The event, which was held at Hazel Grove, had been


organised by Mrs Laura Bailey in aid of the charity. Stalls selling cakes and other items helped boost the total and when the coffers were counted the grand total raised was £324. A spokesman for the hospice said the coffee morning had been a "super effort" on its behalf.
