Inquest hears of former coal miner’s breathing problems
SERBIAN-BORN Stovan Arsen- ovic who worked as a coal miner for 15 years died from industrial disease,
an inquest in Clitheroe heard. Mr Arsenovic had no relatives in
Britain, the hearing was told, but was given a home in Gisburn by Mr Kenneth Hodson, and his Serbian-bom wife, Zivana. Mr Hodson, of Ribblesdale House, Main
breathing problems, often struggling for breath, and was in receipt of a pension from the coal board, said Mr Hodson. He was being treated by his doctor for his con dition and was referred to Burnley General Hospital in February, returning home in March. But his condition deteriorated and he

Accident man’s organs used for transplants
TOOLMAKER David Shirley died after being struck by a car as he returned to work from col lecting his lunch at a road side cafe.An inquest heard how Mr Shirley banged his head on the kerb after a low speed accident in Salthill Road, Clitheroe. Mr Shirley (58), of
Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley, Mrs C. A. Singleton, said that a post-mortem showed Mr Arsenovic died from a heart attack due to the condition of his lungs, which had been caused by chronic pneu moconiosis - a disease linked to coal rain ing.
She recorded a verdict that death had been caused by industrial disease.
