LOCAL Latin Ameri can rhythm lover Roger Coates whipped up a hot salsa to qualify for a national dance cham pionship final held in London last week. . Along with his partner,

Beware pickpockets who are targeting females

THE Torchlight Procession has seemed to herald the start of winter and from that evening the weather has turned somewhat wintry.

While it is hoped that everyone enjoyed the fes tivities, for us it was an extremely busy day.

Vast quantities of no wait ing cones were required to be put out during the day to assist the proces sion to form up and to ensure the flow of traffic round the town while it was in progress.

Heavy rain made it a damp ening experience for offi cers engaged in regulat ing the traffic and many got wet, but took it all in good part.

The weather has continued to give us problems, espe

cially the recent storms, when lightning struck the police station and caused some damage.

Another recent road hazard which caused long delays and detours was the spillage of diesel fuel near the town centre. Patrols had to be in attendance for twt> hours until the road was fit to be reopened.

ON the crime front, there has been a spate of activ ity in the town centre shops by some expert pickpockets. They target females who would be likely to carry purses inside shopping bags or handbags and frequent shops where people are likely to browse. They use distraction methods to get into the bags, take what they want, and often close the bag up and leave without any one being the wiser.

very much on the ball and some excellent infor mation led to two arrests, so perhaps these two at least will think twice before returning to Clitheroe. We would, however, like to speak to a man who briefly spoke to an officer on Booth's car park and gave the information that the two offenders, young females, were heading for the rail way station. The date in question was Saturday, September 18th, and it would be approximately 1-45 p.m. DC Whitehead would appreciate hearing from him, or anyone who can give any informa tion. Our thanks go to all these people who assisted us to make these arrests.

It is difficult to protect computers themselves within an office or work environment, other than making the building itself as secure as possi ble. Lancashire County Coun cil dusted down the affect ed area to soak up the fluid and put up signs to

said they were alerted to the spill by a telephone call from a shop owner at around 8-50 a.m. The sta tion also received five fur ther telephone calls about the problem and two reports from people calling into the station. Prior to the closure of

cers, along with fire-fighters who attended the scene, described the road condi tions as being like an ice rink. Station officer Dave

McGrath, from Clitheroe Fire Brigade, said later the road had been treacherous. Whoever contacted the emergency services had done the right thing, enabling the road to be closed and the situation to be assessed. On Monday, a spokes
