Leon will put drivers in hot SEAT S
EAT’S first 180 b.h.p. four-wheel-drive is being launched next month by the
Barcelona-based car maker. The high performance six-speed Leon
hot hatch - named after the Castillian city in Northern Spain - is designed to capture coupe styling with saloon comfort. The new range, based on the Toledo saloon, is expected to cost between
.£13,000 and £18,000. It will be available in four trim levels,
with a choice of seven engines ranging from the 68 b.h.p. 1.9 SDi to the top per forming 180 b.h.p. 1.8 20v turbo boasting a
top speed of 142 m.p.h. — the most power
ful engine in a production SEAT. The diesel range includes a 90 h.p. 1.9TDi as well as the 110 h.p. engine. In addition, the Leon features electroni
cally controlled air conditioning, satellite navigation, ABS anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability and anti-skid controls. There will be four airbags, elec tric retractable door mirrors, rain sensing windscreen wipers and a sound system with independent earphones for rear seat

Luxury off-reader from Lexus L
EXUS is gearing up to join the dog fight in the luxury off-roader sector with the RX 300 - the best selling
Lexus in America. The European version is scheduled^
to go on sale in autumn 2000 when it will compete with the likes of Range Rover, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Mercedes M Class. And the fight will really hot up when BMW and Porsche enter the fray with their own 4x4s.
Renault ahead with the Kangoo J

from French rival Renault. Like the Multispace, the Kangoo
is a highly practical, incredibly spa cious but decidedly strange-looking family car derived from a small van. And, like the Citroen, the
Renault can be fun and rewarding for those who dare to be that bit dif ferent with their choice of motor. It will go on sale on October 20th,
but Renault dealers are getting pre view cars in their showrooms this month, so customers can see for themselves just how much room
there is inside for their brood. According to Renault, the Kan
goo, which comes with two sliding rear doors and a massive tailgate, is

Saxo is top of the pile A
FRENCH revolution swept through car
showrooms during August, led by the Citroen
Saxo. Saxo leapt from being
1 Oth best seller in July to the top of the pile last month, ousting the Ford Focus and Fiesta. And it was joined in the
top 10 by two other French models, the Peu geot 306 at number seven and Renault Clio at eight. Total sales for August
were dramatically lower than a year ago. But the fall was expected because
of the changes in the reg istration system and Sep tember's figures should be
