Village despite

car park plan is thrown out officials

A PLAN for a car park,near

the village school in Gisburn was rejected after being com prehensively slammed by. a leading councillor. As reported last week, mem

bers of the Ribble Valley Bor ough Council Planning Commit tee were recommended by offi cials to approve the parish coun

cil’s plan. They felt that the benefits to the

village outweighed the disadvan tages, and in their report repeated points made for an earlier meeting in June at which the plan had been

refused. * Planning consultant Mr Andrew

Cooking up a treat to say thank you to local store

PUPILS from Simonstone School made cakes and biscuits to thank Sainsbury’s for donat ing computers, books and other

equipment to their school. The donation is part of a nation

wide campaign through which .cus tomers of the supermarket could nominate a school to receive goods. Simonstone was just one of a num

ber of schools in the area to benefit, and the pupils were given ingredients and equipment from the food store to make the cakes and cookies. Our picture shows Simonstone
