the retired plumber known more for his shock of white hair, raucuous laugh, total commitment to the railways and "if you want omelettes, you have to break a few eggs" aproach, has headed a team of volunteers, demonstrating the same enthusiasm for the Mil lennium Torchlight as he did for bringing the trains back to the Ribble Valley. His initial involvement
in Torchlight was in the early 1950s, when Mr Harold Kendrick intro duced him to the organisa tion behind the spectacu lar tradition. Today, Mr Moore, with
wifo.'Eileen, and civic visi tors from Rossendale, watching and learning in possible preparation for a similar spectacle in their own community. Despite major heart
surgery almost two years ago, when lie was approached about chairing the committee, Mr Moore needed no second asking. A committee was formed

However, with 4,000 programmes printed, a multitude of collection tins and, for the first time, sou venirs, all were quietly con fident that the outstanding money from the £13,000 cost would be raised. Ribble Valley Borough Council had covered the £2,000 lighting bill for the Castle Keep, with the remaining £11,000 needed for fire works, insurance, bands, programmes etc. and any residue will head towards the Mayor of Clitheroe's Welfare Fund. Nothing runs totally

managed to bring the trains into the Torchlight, with First North Western agree ing to put on special late trains enabling visitors from Blackburn and beyond to travel into Clitheroe with out their cars.
