PARRY SETS SIGHTS ON A FLYING START

^ By CHRIS BODEN to a flying sta rt at Mossley on C

Saturday. The Blues go into the clash at

Seel Park against last season's runners-up in confident mood fol lowing an impressive pre-season. Par ry has strengthened his

squad with the likes of Bamber Bridge's Lee Sculpher, goalkeep er Chris Richens from Accring ton, David Gray from Rochdale, and Paul Whalley and Neill Kennedy from Great Harwood, while all bar Clive Dunn and Jon Riley have signed on from last

season. Parry is itching to get started:

"We are looking pretty solid and organised, and we're looking for

ward to it. "Mossley s ta r t as one of the best sides in the division, but we

they play. "They are obviously a good

side, but it is a chance to measure ourselves against the better sides

early on. "It is a chance to get a conn-

dence-boosting result, and if we

do it will give us real self belief. "We have to get into a position

of strength early on in the season by stringing a few results togeth er, and hopefully we can start that

on Saturday." Clitheroe follow up the Mossley

clash with a home game against Ramsbottom on Tuesday night. Rammy finished a place above

the Blues last season in 11th, tak ing the title of top Lancashire side in the division as a result. Parry is keen to put that right:

"It would be nice to put one over on them after they finished above

us. "But we are a different side to

last season. "We look more organised and

in all areas. "Hopefully we can give the fans

something to cheer about early on.

"It will take time, but if we get off to a good start, I am sure the

fans will start to come on. "I am certain they will be behind us again, but it is down to

us to get good results. "I believe we should be looking

at getting crowds of 300-400 - that isn't beyond Clitheroe. "And if we get off to a good start, like we plan to, that might

be the case." The Blues have trained all week

after their final warm-up clash at home to Leigh RMI on Saturday, although some first team squad members were involved in Mon day night's friendly against Man chester League side Whitworth

Valley. Clitheroe drew 2-2 with Urn-

Bond Premier Division side Leigh with goals from Gary Rishton and

Carl Greenwood, and Parry was delighted: "It was a good perfor mance, and I said afterwards that th a t is our standard, which we

have to maintain. "They brought virtually the

"We went 1-0 down direct from a corner, but went 2-1 ahead in

the second half. "Gary Rishton volleyed one in,

and he then hit another which was saved, and Carl Greenwood

followed up to score. "They got a penalty that never

was late on to equalise, although I think tha t was a diplomatic, face-saving decision." Goalkeeper Jon Parrott picked

up a knock with half an hour to play, leaving Sculpher to don the number one shirt for the remain

der of the game. Parry said: "Lee enjoyed it - I
