hey were an army of vol­ unteers ready to respond to national emergencies at the drop of a hat.

They were the Food ‘ Flying Squads, bands of women organised by the Ministry of Agri­ culture and Fish in the '50s and '60s. We were all very sorry, because we had all become such good friends, but we have had many happy reunions since." said Mrs Dixon.
