Striving to keep Clitheroe a pleasant market town

CLITHEROE is a very special place to me. I have always lived here and I care about the

town and its future. There are many residents and organisations

who are helping me to work for this town of ours, to ensure its heritage, and assisting our residents

who are less fortunate than ourselves. The town council, together with the service organisa

tions - and there are many who are so supportive in this town - are helping the old, the lonely and especially the young, who do need our attention in these times of temp tation. There are so many people I would like to thank, but, if I name one, then unfortunately we will miss one. It is, therefore, important for me to say a very sincere

thank you to all of those who are helping to make Clitheroe a very pleasant town to live in. The town council aims to continue the traditions of

Clitheroe wherever possible within our remit, to ensure it will remain this pleasant market town) which I am sure you have grown to love as a resident as much as I have. Town council meetings are open to the public on all occa sions and it is continued policy that we should endeavour to keep them open in the future. Might I, therefore, on behalf of my family, the town

the young boy home and found him a resting place for the night when He

had stayed behind in the temple at Jerusalem to talk with the teachers. We know of Martha and Mary,

whose home was always open to Jesus at Betheny. What a privilege they had, but our Lord was given hospitality in many homes, where folks were glad to make room for Him. We are unaware of the names of these people, but consider them to have been greatly honoured, being able to help Jesus as He needed them. Such actions were very valuable

and necessary, but, when Jesus talked with people, He stressed the fact that, if they gave a drink of water to a thirsty one in His name, they were

serving Him. "In as much as you do it unto the

Sharing and caring, these unknown people had no idea who they were ministering to. They did just that little extra to provide shelter, warmth and light. Growing up, Jesus needed care and attention. Someone must have taken

"Have you any room for Jesus?" I t contains a sad verse: "Room for plea sure, room for business, but, for Christ the crucified, not a place that He may enter in the life for which he died." How sad this is, when true, and

least of these, my brethren, you do it unto me," He would say. Do you remember the old hymn,

what a tragic time a Christless Christmas is. Shall you have room in your home for Jesus this Christmas?
