Blues aim for more FA Cup progress

their FA Cup campaign on Saturday. By Justin Connolly

C Youths start with goal glut with a 4-4 draw at Chorley C

LITHEROE FC’S new youth team kicked off their 1997-98 campaign

Wanderers on Sunday. The goals came from Matt Gamer,

Steven Wilkinson and Martin Halleron (2). Clitheroe took the lead after 22 min

utes when Halleron got his side off to a fine start. Chorley then pressed for an equaliser

but Clitheroe survived a free kick which hit the post to go in one up at half-time. Chorley fought hard again at the start

of the second half and hit the Clitheroe crossbar after 52 minutes. I t was only a matter of time before they equalised, and the goal duly came after 65 minutes.

Gamer put one in for Clitheroe to go Uh

back into the lead soon after, but Chor ley drew level with 15 minutes to go. Chorley continued to press and scored

their third and fourth after 80 and 82 min utes, but Clitheroe refused to lie down. They got their third two minutes later

through Wilkinson and equalised with five minutes left after a 30-yard Tom Bartlett free-kick found Halleron. Clitheroe have not had a youth side for

around three years, but have this season linked up with Clitheroe Wolves to re

establish that side of the club. The Wolves have done great things for

youth football in the Clitheroe area in recent years and Clitheroe FC want to carry on that work with their youth side. The top Wolves side will move to

Clitheroe each year as they become too old to play in the various local youth

leagues. Alan Wilkinson is in charge of the side

go wiu abui ouauuej « with Keith Chamley as his assistant, . and Blues chairman Steve Rush is hop

ing for great things. "Clitheroe Wolves do a great job and we want to make sure their work does

not go to waste,” he said. “We want to give the players some

where to go when they stop playing for the Wolves so that no local players slip through our net.

out for our reserve side.” The side warmed up for the new season with two friendlies at Shawbridge. They were beaten by Nelson 3-2 and

then lost 3-1 to Euxton Villa but put in good performances which bode well for the coming season. As well as their league campaign, the club also hope to enter a side in the FA

Youth Cup next season. The side are pictured Shawbridge. (CAT12351)
