the school’s Young Enterprise co-ordinator, said he was bitterly


disappointed for the youngsters, who had worked incredibly hard. Nevertheless, they thoroughly


deserved their special awards and were the toast of the town, he commented. The event, held at the Mytton

computers THE generosity of a Manchester-based firm is helping pupils of two Clitheroe schools acquire skills for the future.


• Brookside Primary and Ribblesdale Nursery schools have each been - given a computer package to help their children and their budgets. The personal


computers were surplus to requirements at Zeneca Specialities, a subsidiary o f the International Bioscience Company, and staff were asked to nominate schools in the North-West where the equipment would have an impact. Dr Nick Thompson, o f


Zeneca, lives in Clitheroe and his son, Rory, attends Ribblesdale Nursery School and will go on to Brookside in September. He nominated the two schools, which became two o f 13 in the region to receive donations. Each package, which


includes a computer, keyboard and software, is estimated to cost around £750. Mrs June Dewhurst,


Ribblesdale headteacher, was delighted by the donation. She said: “ It is


very generous o f them. Computers are luxury items. As we already have one, we could not possibly afford another, ■but a second will be so


useful. “ Children at this level


familiarise themselves with modern technology, but the computers are very good indeed for special needs children, who gain instant rewards.” Mr Graham Claydon,
