The try-scoring was completed in bizarre

the expectant crowd were hoping to avange an early cup exit at the hands of Clitheroe. But their hopes were dashed early on when some

dose-quarter driving from the forwards gave Dave Watson an opportunity to open Clitheroe’s account with a sweetly-struck penalty. It was Watson again when Clitheroe gath

out, Clitheroe’s backs got weaving and when the move broke down in the middle, some good work from the forwards produced good quick ruck ball and flyhalf Tyas was off

checked inride, slowed and accelerated away again in the style of the great Australian David Campese to record a great try. With the slight slope in their favour in the second half, something of a rout mat have

been expected. I t may well have been had Clitheroe had more authority in the setpiece areas, espe cially the scrums where neither of the

ered a ball on the opposition throw-in and a text-book driving maul gave the scrum half the simplest of touchdowns. He was also on target with the conversion. Then shortly before half-time, after a line-
