ties of the Ribhle and Hodder Val leys, far distant from hospital facili ties, could stand to gain most from the appeal and, with this in mind, the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times has decided to back the local ambulance crews in their quest for fund-raisers. We start today by providing a collec

David Hill, chief executive of Lan cashire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, outlined why the fund-raising is vitally important and how the peo ple of Lancashire will benefit. He explained th a t figures showed

FOND schoolday memories came flooding back for the class of 1955 when Clitheroe Royal Grammar School Old Girls’ Association held its annual din
ner. Ex-pupils from that year had been urged
to make a special effort to attend the event by Mrs Kathleen Heald, who had thought it would he a good idea to arrange a reunion with her former classmates to coincide with the dinner. “The conversation a t their table was quite animated as they shared memories
and studied treasured photographs from their schooldays,” said a spokeswoman. A total of 70 old girls from various years, including 13 from 1955, attended the
event, held a t the Mytton Fold Farm Hotel, Langho—a new venue for the din-
ner. The president of the association, Mrs
Mary Bridge, proposed the loyal toast and told the gathering she was enjoying her first year in the post. She said she had greatly appreciated the opportunity of being able to represent the association at the CRGS commemoration service last
term at the recent “Speech Night”, when five students received the old girls’ prizes awarded every year by the group. Deputy head Mr Ted Carter and his wife, Val, represented the headmaster, Mr Stu art Holt, and his wife, who were unable to attend. Mr Carter gave members an interesting
and informative account of the past year’s changes and achievements at the school.
He also spoke of some amusing incidents which took place when the hoys’ and girls’ schools amalgamated. Head boy Ian Clark expressed thanks on
behalf of the head girl, Sonia Mackintosh, and himself for the invitation to the din
ner. There was a break from tradition this
year as there was no main speaker from the old girl ranks. The evening concluded with a light-heart
ed quiz — won by Mrs Sheila Hartley — in which competitors were required to identify committee members from pho tographs as babies. Our picture shows former pupils and guests at the dinner.
