a 70.6 average, but Andy Gudgeon took the game with a 73.3 average. John Burgess was next in the frame
taking just 60 darts to eliminate Adri an Ridgway, averaging 72.25 points per throw. All the matches through to the final
were in excess of 60 points per throw. In the semi-finals, Mick Eunson nar

five-leg match. First to the oche was Andy, hitting consecutive 140s and checking out on 80 to take the leg in 14 darts. Mick had left a finish, but never
got to throw at it. The second leg saw both players hitting
consecutive tons at the start before Mick went ahead. Double trouble for Mick left Andy to clear up the second leg with a 124 checkout in 18 darts. The third leg saw Andy hitting the first maximum 180 of the night followed by two tons to leave a finish after nine darts. He narrowly missed a 15-dart checkout but finished in 20 darts to

horse Just Balko quali fied for the Horse and Hound Novice competi tion a t Upton Park and finished a magnificent sixth out of around 60 horses. Just Balko was also sec ond to The Humerist at
grade B showjumper Golden Deal, who came second in the horse trials and first in his novice sec tion. The horse was ridden by
Osbaldeston on Sunday. Another winner was
23-yearold rider Allan Birch, in his first year of showjumping. Owner of all the horses
Trudy Goulding said:
“We are delighted with the success of Golden Deal because he’s only five and Allan is in his first season.” Allan was also the rider of Heatly Avalon, a six-year old stallion, a t Osbalde
ston, where he came sec ond in the open section and the Members Cup.
The horse, who has not
been jumped for four months, was beaten by
Golden Deal in the Mem bers Cup and now lies just a few pounds sho r t of qualifying as a grade B jumper. Our picture shows Allan
