A breath-taking production of “ La Boheme
returns to Opera North, with an exciting young gut featuring Margaret Richardson as Mimi and Tito Bel
tran as Rodolfo. Set in a time when Marilyn Monroe and James _
Dean were as much heroes of the young as Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, this masterpiece fol
lows the fortunes of Mimi and Rodolfo, who meet in Paris and fall in love. Their passionate affair flourishes among the bustling clubs and cafes, but Mimi falls ill and the opera draws to its heart-break ing conclusion. This stunning production is sung in Italian, with music by Puccini and originial text by Giuseppe Gia-
cosa and Luigi Illica. It can be seen at venues throughout the North-
West until March, with performances at the Leeds Grand Theatre on January 26th and 29th and February 1st. Further details and bookings are available from the Opera North Hotline on 0113 244
5326. The series of Saturday morning cinema shows for
children, at the Apollo 5 in Blackburn, continues this week with “Cool Runnings”. The screening starts at 11 a.m. and further details and bookings are available on 01254 695979.
