Owners of rabbits hop to it from afar
CLITHEROE and Dis trict Rabbit Club’s show on Sunday was a resound ing success, with over 550 entries. The show, held at St
Nicholas’s Church Hall, Sabden, attracted entries from a wide area, with the winning rabbit belonging to Mr J. Oakes, of Wigan. From even further
afield came the best fancy rabbit of Mr R. May. who brought his Belgian hare from Cornwall.

Whittaker (81) continued his winning streak of the
previous day with the best entry in the Steel Dutch section by his under-four- month-old rabbit. On Saturday, Mr Whittaker won several prizes at the Lancashire Dutch Breed ers’ Show. Mr Michael Hodge, of Clitheroe, won both silver grey and s ilver fawn classes and local competi tor Miss Doris Brown, of
Whalley, won the bevern class. Mrs C. Dugdale, of
Rathmel. won the best grey English and Mr S. Thorn ley the dw a r f section.

CLITHEROE Cubs had a splashing good time on Saturday, when they took part in their annual swimming gala. Seven packs, compris ing over 70 Cub Scouts,

I HE village of Pendleton has lost yet another
link with the past through the death of Mrs Rose York.
Mrs York (90), of East
V iew , was horn and brought up at Ivv Cot tage, Standee, on the out skirts of Clitheroe. She attended Pendleton School and was a member of the
church choir as a voting girl. Although her family later moved to Clitheroe,
she maintained contact with the village and in her middle age returned with her husband, James. Mrs York was known
for her enthusiasm and readiness to help with any project in the village. She was president of Pendle ton WI for some years and

countryside and hills. She also enjoyed g e t t in g together with her old school friends still living in the village and recalling the days before the rail ings went round the brook and horse-drawn vehicles had to ford the crossing. Infirmity forced Mrs
York to move from the vil lage to Beech Grove
Home, Clitheroe, where she lived happily during her last two years. A funeral service was
held at All Saints' Church, Pendleton, on Monday.
