ting increasingly similar, the new Honda manages to stand out. It is an undeni
ably handsome motor, helped in no uncertain terms by the distinctive front end, which gets the same treatment as the new Prelude did last year. As you would expect from a Japa
nese manufacturer, the Accord is loaded with all manner of extras as standard. The 2.0i LS model tested here came with electric windows, mir rors, aerial and sun roof, anti-lock brakes and remote-controlled central locking included in the price. The more luxurious models can boast wood ven eered dashboards and air conditioning. The car feels "right” more or less
the moment you settle into the well- padded seats. Everything is to hand, the instrumentation is clear and visi- bility is first class. In short, you feel

at home. Driving the Accord is effortless,
thanks to power steering, a light gear change and a very flexible engine with
plenty of torque. What is more surprising is that the
new Honda has got more get up and go than a lot of cars in its class — the Accord really feels like it wants to go when pushed. It's a bit too big for thrashing along sinuous B-roads, but on big sweeping A-roads, thanks to excellent handling and beautiful poise, the Honda is a joy to drive. As mentioned before, there's quite
a lot more room for passengers inside the new model and it also boasts a
cavernous boot. Taken all round, the new Accord is
yet another excellent car from the ori ent, with the added advantage of being
built in Britain. The model tested here costs
