worth, prosecuting, said a police o ffic e r stopped Clough after seeing him driving in an erratic man ner along Castle View, Clitheroe.
The o f f ic e r smelled
intoxicants on his breath and a test showed he had 135mg. o f alcohol per 100ml. of breath.
Mr David Parkinson, in
mitigation, said Clough had drunk six pints on the day in question, spread over the early afternoon and evening.
Mr Parkinson added
that the reading suggested he had consumed more alcohol and that perhaps his diabetic condition could have influenced the test.
“It’s an extremely high
reading. I can not put forward any explanation why it’s so high,” Mr Par kinson said.
To appeal
A NEWTON man has had his disqualification from driving suspended, pend ing a Crown Court appeal.
Clitheroe magistrates
granted the application from Dominic Blanc (25), of The Heaning, after hearing he was appealing against a conviction for d r iv in g with excess alcohol.
The court heard Blanc
was a self-employed fish merchant who drove all over the country.

Andrew misses palace award
A YOUNG Clitheroe man who gained the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award missed receiving it at Buckingham Palace at the
weekend, due to his father’s sudden illness. Andrew Moore (21), of Buccleuch Avenue, was to . attend the prestigious award ceremony with his par
ents, but his father, Mr Peter Moore, of S. J. Moore and Sons, plumbers, was rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack. Following an anxious week, during which he was
treated in the intensive care unit at Blackburn Royal Infirmary before being transferred to Queen’s Park .Hospital, he is now recovering at home. For the award, Andrew undertook a wide variety
of tasks, including renovating Clitheroe’s cenotaph, completing a year's community service, collecting for Telethon, making an expedition to the Lake District, playing hockey for Blackburn and attending a mili tary-style leadership course, at Frinley Park, in Surrey. A past staff sergeant with the Clitheroe Army
Cadets, Andrew attended Reading University,, from where he recently graduated with an honours degree in Politics and International Relations. Andrew, who hopes to join the police force next
month, will be presented with a special certificate later this year.

get-together at the Freemason’s Arms, Wiswell, with school governors, parents and teachers.
The school’s headteacher, Mr Chris Woods,
said: “Mrs Clegg really has been a major influence on many of the school’s pupils. Many Ribble Valley people have been positively affected by her.”
He continued: “ It’s very rare that she leaves
school before 7 p.m., because she is busy prepar ing things for the children. After 22 years in any profession, that sort of enthusiasm is worth a for tune. Her expertise is worth a million pounds.” Poignantly, Mr Woods added that Mrs Clegg,
who lives in Fence, “really loved the children” and that they “ really loved her.”
