Now to the nitty gritty 4 X 4 - the handling under pressure; I have to say that I felt complete confidence in the 2.5 litre, 4 cvlinderOHV engine which purred contentedly over every hillock and slippery mound, P.A.S. made easy work of quick direction changes, and the generous ground clearance helped ease the Jeep over the difficult mossy terrain; in the quarry testing bed, here again the Jeep was sure footed and confident on the shifting, slippery stones and negotiating difficult passages at a snails pace was no problem for us (it has to be said that it was a particularly inclement day for testing), back on to the open road and into two wheel drive, the jeep reacted as if it were a normal nippy everyday vehicle, gear changing very


neat and positive, good suspension and road holding, a pleasure to drive in traffic. At present there are 3 models available, Wrangler Jeep (test model), Wrangler Jeep Limited (fitted with 4 litre 6 cylinder engine, and the


Cheroke Jeep, which is the top of the range estate version. Prices start at just £12,000.


All in all I feel that the Jeep has to be a commendable new rival for the already healthy 4 X 4 market, and will soon find faithful followers.
