KEEN Ribble Valley table tennis fans flocked to Howland High School for this year’s Ribblesdale Table Tennis Association Closed Championship. The competitors, who arc pictured a f te r the
exciting contest, competed in several categories, including titles for singles and doubles. The championship capped a successful year for
local table tennis, which is proving popular, par ticularly among the area’s youth. Mr Tony Hall, the association’s treasurer, said:

KIBBLE VALLEY cycling brothers Alan and Mark Gornall took first place in the weekend’s tough Polaris Challenge Cycle Race, held at Kiclder Forest. The couple, who endured snow, ice and punctures
during the two-day mountain bike event, won the senior section of the competition, as well as taking first place overall. The race involves a series of check points, each of
which c ar r ie s a point score, depending on its accessibility. Competitors have to carry lull kit, including tents,
and have to complete the course within a specified time, after devising their own route. Saturday saw the pair in second place, but a fatal
mistake by the leading pair — who duplicated a check point — enabled the Gormtlls to finish first.
