obse rved tha t the general behaviour of youthful inhabi tants of the Kibble Valley is to ignore de s ignated cross ing places, including pelicans, z ebras and lollipop staff, and to simply wan d e r across busy roads at will. This is of ten done in a
very bel l igerent manner , going as slowly as possible in a sor t of game to s e e if on-coming vehicles will slow, or swe rv e to avoid them. Li t t le chi ldren, I note,
