said, that more money would not become avail­ able, costs for labour and overheads would rise with the subsequent increase in prices and many small shops would be driven out of business by the higher costs, resulting in the loss of thousands of jobs.

would mean the loss of Sunday as a special day for worship, relaxation, family and friends. Sunday trading, she


said, was designed to fill the coffers of the already rich. Those requesting it


were mainly a small number of large shops be­ lieving they could thereby substantially increase
