Public inquiry! date now set for January

IT will now be next year before there can be any

further developments in the long running wrangle

over the.use of land off Woone Lane, Clitheroe, by A. J. A. Smith Trans port and Steadplan.

A public inquiry to con

sider the appeal by the two firms against an en forcement notice served by the Ribble Valley Council will take place on January 11th.

The inquiry was plan

ned for last month, but had to be postponed be cause of the illness of one of the company’s direc tors, who would have had to give evidence.

This was reported to

the Ribble Valley Coun cil’s Planning and Trans portation Committee by solicitor Mr Paul Timson.

He added that a letter had been received from

solicitors acting for an in- dustralist at Primrose urging the council to serve a stop notice on Smith’s.

However, the drawback

with this notice was that if Smith’s won the appeal, it could claim compensa tion from the council.

In a recent similar case

in Worcestershire, Mr Timson revealed that the council had been faced with a £’/2m. compensation bill.
