waste paper was collected by Read Scout and Guide Parents’ Committee on Saturday morning. The scales tipped at four
and a half tons to realise £68.40, which was handed to the Parish Council for the senior citizens’ Christ mas party.

J ohn’s School , Re ad, raised more than £100 for the village’s Scouts and Guides. Every ticket was sold for the evening, arranged by the parents’ committee, which provided a cold meat supper.

The Methodist minister,
the Rev. G. A. Vickers, who is chairman of the council, conducted the service.

sang two solos to her own guitar accompaniment and Mr Colin Jones was guest organist.
Tea and biscuits were
served by the Waddington ladies after the service.

Meditation Nearly 60 adults and
children took part in a fam ily communion service at All Saints’ Church, Pendle ton, on Sunday. A feature of the service
was an audio-visual medi tation for Advent, using
slides and recorded music and commentary on the theme “God’s world — man’s wilderness.” The meditation had been
prepared by the priest-in charge, tne Rev. John Cole. During the service junior choristers sang ?‘When I needed a neigh bour.” Mr Cole presented thank
you gifts to Sunday School teachers Mrs Sheila Scott and Mrs Janet Whitwell, who have retired after three years. Teaching in the school is now being shared between the chil dren’s parents. Ladies of , the' church
served coffee and mince pies in the school after the service and £10.25 was col lected for Christian Aid's Cambodia appeal.
