MORE than £400 was raised by Saturday’s Christmas Fair in Chipping village hall organised by the parish councils of Chipping and Leagram and Little Bowland.


Many local organisations took an active


part in the fair by running their own stalls: And from the moment that the Ribble Valley Mayor and Mayoress (Coun. and Mrs Harry Riding) opened the event, the crowds con­ tinually' poured in, despite heavy snow showers.

Insight into witchcraft


“A PACT with the devil”' was how witchcraft was described by King James I, an expert on witches in his day. A t Edisford Ladies


Club, speaker Mr Edgar Peel, of Colne, explained how the notion of a witch being the servant of the devil originated. In his talk he also referred to modern witchcraft. Mrs Edna Birt- well thanked him. T h e 'd u b ’s Christmas
