service it is possible to give.” This service is promised by
Mr Maurice Bursk, a 42-ycar- old Lancashire man, who has invested his life savings in bringing Datsun to NE Lanca shire’s Calder Valley, and is convinced “we are here to
stay.” The cars are Datsuns,
“from the fourth biggest car manufacturers in the world."
Datsun have an impressive
appeal, for stylish cars offer ing remarkable economy both in purchase price and running costs, with numerous items included as standard equip

ment which other marques regard as optional extras. The Datsun range covers 23
cars, with a total of 30 colours, and the choice of automatic or manual transmission on nearly all saloons and estate cars.
EXTENSIVE P r ic e s begin with the
economical two-door Cherry 100A at £1,297, rising through the top-selling 1,200 cc Sunny 120Y two-door saloon at £1,429 to the luxury 260C estate car at £2,734; plus a super-sports car at £3,694.
\ This value for money is just
as appealing in 'NE Lanca shire as elsewhere, with Dat sun offering one of the lowest- priced family cars on the mar ket — the Cherry 100A.
This is a classy sports-style
saloon, seating four in com fort, which claims 40 miles to the gallon at reasonable cruis ing speed, but a top speed of 87 mph which gives motorway driving without stress. For those who prefer the
“fast lane” — there's a coupe with a slightly bigger engine giving a top speed of 93 mph.

brought to the Calder Valley by Mr Bursk, who has taken over extensive premises in Burnley’s Church Street, which have been familiar to motorists fo r decades, to launch. Pendlc Garages Ltd.
He served his time as a.
motor engineer in the family bu sin ess in Manchester started by Iris father with his first world war gratuity.
Now, along with his wife,
Mrs Rhona Bursk, who acts as company secretary “with fam ily commitments,” Maurice has established his own family concern, confident that with

Datsun it will be “a success story.” |
' “The cars are made in what is probably the most modern car production plant in the world,” says Mr Bursk. “The emphasis is on quality control and ensuring that the finished product is as perfect as a car can be, when it reaches the customer...
ENGAGED “To that end the buyer will
find a special ’sticker’ on each car, signed by the factory inspector who makes the final check; and in the unlikely event of any trouble that * inspector is responsible for any complaint,” he says.
“That is the best was of
ensuring that a car is ‘right,’ a feature illustrated by the fact that 17V6'pcr cent, of the Dat sun work force is engaged on quality control, and on the final inspection and chocks before their cars leave their factory.
CONFIDENT “ Finally there is our own
pre-delivery inspection, in Burnley, and we make that the most thorough and com prehensive possible.”
To back up that pro/nisc of trouble-free motoring, Mr
Bursk .quotes the extensive service facilities at the Burn ley Church Street premises.
“We have a-tremendous
range of Datsun spares at our Pendle Garages — backed up by out computer link with Datsun UK at Worthing, which runs a 24-hour deliv ery," he says.
“We are also equipped to
undertake full service and maintenance work on other makes o f car — -especially Opel, with one member of our maintenance sta f f being a
fully trained Opel mechanic, who was employed on that marque in Burnley.”
“All our staff, from the gar
age floor to executive level, will participate in a profit- sh a r in g s ch em e , which
• ensures they have every incentive to give the max imum effort to ensure cus tomer satisfaction.”
SERVED Mr Bursk is confident that
Datsun will make, a bigger impression in the Burnley- Petidle and surrounding area, now that Pendle Garages arc established locally.

sonal recommendations from satisfied owners," says Mr
Bursk. “A large'proportion of Dat
sun drivers are private motor ists who are free to make their own choice — and look for value for money and trouble- free running. “ That is made possible
because, in addition to our own pre-delivery inspection by our own service manager, Datsun have a fantastic record for reliability — the average warranty claim is less than £1 per car, a figure .which speaks for itself.” Mr Bursk, a native of Man
chester, entered the motor trade in his fatlrcr’s business on leaving school in 1948, and served his time in the trade before graduating into run ning his own business.
ESTABLISHED Subsequently he joined the
senior management of one of the best-known motor retail ing organisations in Lanca shire.
* Now he has launched his
own family business, Pendle Garages Ltd, where, he says; “ I hope to be succeeded in time by my young son." Why chooso Burnley? “First, because I decided it
was an ideal town for the kind o f . business I envisaged. Second, because I reviewed the car market and decided that with a Datsun dealership, not previously established in the Calder Valley, there was great scope for the future,” says Mr Bursk.
Mr Keith ISullocli Sales Manager
AGED 49, Todmorden-born Mr Bullock lias been a popular
figure in the motor trade in and around Burnley for about 20 years, and has already enjoyed meeting “old custom ers” in his new role with Dat sun and Pendle Garages Ltd. “People'takc various factors
into account when choosing a
new car,” he says. “One is the record of the man who sells the car — I have always given my clients a fair deal."
Mr Ken Townson Service Manager
BORN 48 years ago in Man chester, he served his time in Rochdale, became chief test engineer
for.Mercedes in Manchester, worked wit h DAF in Holland and was 22 years in the RAF, being in charge of transport services in Fighter Command.
“We have an excellent set
up for servicing Datsun, with local spares stocks being backed by a 24-hour service through the computer link with Datsun, Worthing, and we have sta f f experienced also in other makes of cars.”
