DDK Strikes Gold At National Tech Awards For Offshore Precise Point Positioning Services

L-R Kevin Gaffney CEO and Stuart Inglis, Managing Director

DDK Positioning, the Aberdeen-based specialist in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Precise Point Positioning (PPP) solutions, has been named winner of the “Innovation of the Year” category at the prestigious National Technology Awards, for its cutting-edge PPP solution.

The National Technology Awards celebrate the pioneers of innovation across UK industry, acknowledging the organisations and individuals driving technological progress and transformation. DDK was recognised for the significant impact made by the company’s PPP technology across the offshore energy sector, where the demand for reliable, high-accuracy GNSS positioning continues to grow.

Helping achieve greater precision, improved safety, and enhanced operational efficiency for offshore operators and tier one suppliers across a wide range of marine applications, from subsea construction to autonomous vessel navigation, DDK’s positioning solution leverages GNSS hardware from technology leader, Topcon Positioning Systems and utilises the Iridium® global satellite communications network.

Kevin Gaffney, CEO, comments: “This award win is succinct illustration of DDK’s drive to provide an alternative to existing positioning technology and service. In doing so, we’ve created a robust and resilient PPP solution which enables our offshore energy clients to position their assets and deliver offshore projects with maximum efficiency, minimum risk and global coverage.

“The offshore industry was one of the first to adopt PPP, and we’re delighted to have been recognised for our work in continuing to push the envelope via our partnerships with Iridium and Topcon, as well as our own team of technology experts whose experience in this field is unrivalled.”

Established in 2016, DDK’s potential was quickly recognised by the Scottish Enterprise High Growth Ventures programme, leading to full commercialisation in 2021.

As part of a 10-year agreement with Oceaneering, DDK’s GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) augmentation service and all associated soſtware and hardware support the tier 1 supplier’s C-Nav® Positioning Solutions.
