BUSINESS & EDUCATION COUNTY NEWS FEBRUARY 2026
LICHFIELD GARRICK THEATRE LAUNCHES CREATIVE BURNTWOOD
Lichfield Garrick Theatre launches Creative Burntwood in association with Lichfield District Council & Burntwood Town Council.
Thanks to £300,000 National Lottery Funding granted through Arts Council England’s Place Partnership Fund, outreach becomes the theme of 2026 as the Garrick bring a variety of free or low-cost arts initiatives & events to various venues across Burntwood. Whether the magic of The Great Baldini, the interactive storytelling of The Story Detectives, or the comedy of Jonny Cole, there’s something for everyone in Burntwood this season. Not only this, but Creative Burntwood becomes a place for community connection with the launch of Creative Burntwood Community Choir alongside the hugely successful free offering of Young Garrick Burntwood.
Denise Orton Brown (Project Manager) said: “This project is being shaped by local voices and local spaces – and the ripple effect means that we have even more ideas for what people want. The arts and being creative is about connection, bringing people together, building confidence, and giving everyone a voice, no matter their background or experience.”
88 LIVE 24SEVEN COLUMNIST AMONG TOP 10 BUSINESSES FROM HOME AT NATIONAL AWARDS
A local journalist of three decades is flying the flag for home- based businesses after celebrating being named a winner in this year’s Small Business Awards UK.
Our very own Small Business columnist Amanda Chalmers was listed among the Top 10 from hundreds of small businesses across the country in the ‘Best Business From Home’ category at the glittering ceremony at Birmingham’s Eastside Rooms, recently.
The news coincided with the seventh anniversary of the launch of her PR agency, Chalmers News PR, in Warwick, which already has three national awards to its name.
Amanda spent 30 years working in the regional press, culminating with a stint in the Stratford-Upon-Avon Herald editor’s chair between 2014 and 2018, before going on to launch Chalmers News PR, from her home in Warwick, specialising in affordable cross-sector PR for small businesses and start-ups as well as charities and not-for-profits.
The SBA judging panel consists of highly qualified industry professionals, each with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in their respective categories.
The Awards celebrate and support small businesses across the UK. The Best Home-Based Business category was introduced to highlight the growing impact of home-based enterprises and the important role they play in today’s economy.
