WE ALL NEED LUXURY
Luxury, after all, should make us feel something. For me, that is where true style begins.
We often think of our clothes as a reflection of who we are, but perhaps they can also be a declaration of who we are becoming.
There is something transformative about putting on an outfit that makes you stand taller. Clothes can lend us confidence on the days we are still trying to find it. They can mark a new beginning, a new career, a new adventure or simply a decision that we are no longer prepared to make ourselves smaller.
As my own creative journey expands with fashion and as an author, I have become even more fascinated by the relationship between clothing and identity. In film, costume tells us something about a character before they have spoken a single word. It can reveal their history, their power, their vulnerability and even hint at the person they are destined to become.
SEPTEMBER VIBES DRESS FOR THE LIFE YOU’RE BECOMING 28
Invest in the beautifully tailored jacket that makes you feel powerful. Wear the colour you have always been afraid of. Choose fewer pieces; but choose pieces you truly love. Mix timeless elegance with something unexpected. And please, wear the fabulous things. Stop saving the beautiful dress, the special handbag or the extraordinary shoes for a life that is already happening. Dress for the meeting you want to walk into. Dress for the adventure you have not yet taken. Dress for the confidence you are growing into. Dress for the dream that still feels just a little too big.
Because sometimes transformation begins with a decision, a new direction and, occasionally, one absolutely fabulous out- fit. Here’s to becoming.
Julia
We are all, in some way, creating the visual story of our own lives. So this September, when considering your new-season wardrobe, don’t simply ask, “What is fashionable?”
Ask something far more interesting – “Who am I becoming?”
