L IVING WITH PTSD MILITARY VETERAN SHARES HIS EXPERIENCE
58
An army veteran who suffers from PTSD after serving in Iraq has shared his story of how taking action against the MOD helped turn his life around.
Andrew Preston says talking to law firm, Lanyon Bowdler, which has offices in Hereford and Bromyard, about making a legal claim against his former employer was a major turning point in his life.
He tells the story how PTSD affected him and his loved ones and discusses the progress he has mad, in the latest episode of the The Legal Lounge podcast.
“I felt strongly that I had to do something to make the MOD accept its failings specifically in my case, and more generally for other soldiers who had suffered similarly,” he said.
“I remember walking into the Lanyon Bowdler offices to ask if they did this kind of negligence case and it was a difficult but really important step to take.”
With the support of legal specialists at Lanyon Bowdler, Andrew built a case against the MOD, resulting in a financial settlement and support package which changed his life.
“It was a very cathartic experience,” he said. “I was taking a stand against an employer who had not done what was expected of them.
“Yes it was difficult to bare your soul in front of people, but I am so
glad we did it and it was a great relief when we won the case.”
Louise Howard, a military claims specialist at Lanyon Bowdler, said Andrew’s case highlighted that there was a way forward for those affected by PTSD.
“It was lovely to talk to Andrew about how his life has improved since deciding to take action against the MOD,” she said.
“Cases like these are not about money, they are an opportunity to work through the client’s issues so they can receive the support and treatment required to start turning their lives around.”
