MAY DAY MAY DAY! THE GUIDE TO GREAT HAIRCARE. PLUS A FREE £5 DAVINES HERBAL HAIR VOUCHER

32

We all may have a regimented skin care routine cleanse, tone and moisturise morning and night, step and repeat– but our haircare routine may vary sometimes missing out the set hair wash days, too much heat styling and time in the sun all taking its toll.

SKIN-IFICATION” Enter the arrival of “skin-ification” or the “skin-tegrity” of hair, something many of us are looking to prioritise, according to a report conducted by Boots in 2022. Centred around haircare innovation to help support the condition of our scalps, as well as the hair fibres, this is now becoming a new way of hair care routine – think sustained hydration, follicle stimulation and overall hair health and strength for all types of hair and wigs.

SHIRLEY THORNHILL’S ADVICE IS TO FOLLOW 4 BASIC STEPS.

STEP ONE: SCALP SCRUB ‘Your scalp is the foundation to great hair, whether natural or wearing a wig. You wouldn’t ever try to build anything on a bad foundation or put bad foundation on your skin, so your scalp is the key,’ says Shirley, professional hair stylist and founder of ENSO Hair Rituals and The Hair Coach. ‘Include your scalp into your routine with easy and simple steps and start to look after it – exfoliation, moisturisation and brushing are all necessities.’

“A scalp scrub or exfoliator can be a great pre-cleanse step. In my experience, you don’t have to use one every time you wash your hair – once every one or two weeks should still make a noticeable difference.”
