At the end of the workday, I usually lock up my office door and head straight for parking. But one day, in a reflective mood, I decided to take the long way through our Main Campus in Davenport. On my meandering walk I watched as our students were using the cutting-edge spaces and technology that we have invested in. I ran into Sage Friedt, who can study at Palmer because she received an opportunity scholarship made possible by a donor. I saw students heading into the new housing complex to make dinner, a faculty member working with a student in a technique room, and an elderly woman leaving our clinic. I saw community. I saw connection. I saw learning. And I saw the future of chiropractic. These have always been synonymous with
Palmer College, but today that future is looking brighter than ever. About six years ago, Barbara Melbourne, J.D., our vice chancellor for institutional advancement, suggested that the time was
“now” to launch a $25 million capital and endowment campaign initiative. At first, I was admittedly skeptical. Would our alumni rally and support our alma mater? Couldn’t we just try to raise $10 million and call it a success? Could we even raise that? After all,
no chiropractic college had ever endeavored a feat of this magnitude. But Barb, a proven fundraiser and
relationship-builder, knew we could do it. So did our Board of Trustees. And what we have witnessed over the past six years is alumni and friends from across generations and geography step up and say, “Yes, I want to be part of something greater than myself.” Well, in that campaign, you raised a staggering $30.2 million for your alma mater, making Daring and Driven the largest fundraising campaign ever achieved by a chiropractic college. This accomplishment has sent waves across the chiropractic profession.
What happens within the walls of our College today has a direct impact on the health of people across our world tomorrow. We teach, we educate, and we practice in pursuit of a world of unlimited health and human potential. It is a vision that demands an unrelenting commitment to providing our students and faculty the very best so that they can “go forth and serve.” I am very Palmer proud of what you help
us do. And I’m inspired — ready to press forward to continue to engage the Palmer Nation as we transform the chiropractic profession forever.
