the historic Notting Hill pub. “When we embarked on this project, our aim was to create a feeling of permanence that respected the building’s heritage and the cabinetry was a big part of that.” The scale and proportion of the handsome wine storage unit that fills one of the walls was inspired by an apothecary’s chest. Elsewhere, she sought ideas for panelling in 19th-century designs and plundered the not-too-distant past for a dragged paint finish and a tasselled fringe that were two mainstays of many a 1980s decorating scheme. It’s an exciting example of classic English taste in a constant state of flux.
