THE JOURNAL

ALICE LEIGH, ALICE LEIGH DESIGN

Who’s coming? Sir Terence Conran, Frank Sinatra, Ruth Rogers, Barbara Windsor and Forrest Gump.

How’s the table laid? I’m channelling a house by the sea, perhaps in Cornwall; I want to keep it simple, not overly fussy. The ‘Jenny’ tableware by 1882Ltd has patterns reminiscent of the sea, and there’s a splash of orange from the Raawii bowl. The hand-cut ‘Arctic’ vase by Moser is quite pebbly looking, to go with the coastal theme.

What’s on the menu? Perhaps Ruth Rogers could help me with this! I like to have plenty of nibbles and canapés before dinner rather than a starter, often Spanish-style tapas, cured meats and Perello olives. I’d follow that with a main course of roast chicken with delicious Ottolenghi-style salads and sides and plenty of sauces. And for pudding, I love nothing better than sharing a large cheeseboard with chutneys, fruit and small chocolatey nibbles like brownies and bowls of Maltesers.

What about the flowers? To go with the tablescape I have chosen, I would go with a relaxed meadow mix of white and Delft blue.

What’s on the playlist? Coldplay.

What else will set the mood – lighting, fragrance, after-dinner games? What else will set the mood – lighting, fragrance, after- dinner games? Plenty of candlelight, interspersed with some cordless lamps (I particularly Paolo Moschino Ltd’s ‘Bamboo’ light in antique brass). For fragrance, Dr Vranjes Ginger Lime. And for a game, Perudo.

ANDREA BENEDETTINI

Who’s coming? Celine Dion, Elton John, Julia Roberts, Harry Styles, Simone Biles, Veere Grenney, Michelle Obama, Hanya Yanagihara, Paolo Moschino and Monica Bellucci.

How’s the table laid? I want to create a Sicilian terrace dinner party to reflect my heritage, as I’m half Sicilian. I’m drawn to Vista Alegre’s ‘Transatlântica’ plates: the combination of the blue and white with the touch of gold on the rim makes it feel very elegant, and the gold ‘Domo Handle’ cutlery, also by Vista Alegre, works well with that detailing. The glassware by Lobmeyr has an organic shape, yet it is super delicate because the glass is so fine.

What’s on the menu? A colourful Ottolenghi-inspired menu focused on vibrant, bold flavours, fresh ingredients and a balance of textures. Cucumber and mint fizz; burrata with roasted tomatoes and basil oil; caramelised onion and cherry tomato focaccia, slow-cooked lamb shoulder with fennel and oranges served with a pomegranate molasses glaze; sweet roasted carrots with honey; roasted Jerusalem artichoke with tahini; and lemon meringue.

What about the flowers? White hydrangeas and greenery.

What’s on the playlist? Soul music – a combination of Sade, Maxwell and Jessie Ware.

What else will set the mood – lighting, fragrance, after-dinner games? Low-level lighting, and for fragrance, Ambra by Dr Vranjes, which has notes of amber, oud and sandalwood. Plus, a murder mystery game.
